iPhone 5 design to feature two-tone back

One of the more noticeable features about Apple’s iPhone 5 will be it’s two-tone backing.

The rumored iPhone 5 is expected to feature everything from a larger screen to technology that allows for mobile payments, but what could be the most-talked about feature is the two-tone colored back, which is expected to be a combination of metal and glass.

The iPhone 4 and 4S, Apple’s most recent iPhone models, feature a completely glass-covered back. While that design makes the iPhone look sleek and modern, it is also sustainable to cracking and breaking much easier than metal would be.

Before the iPhone 4, the iPhone 3G and 3GS featured a completely plastic back, which was durable, but felt cheap.

Apple is changing things up considerably by adding a part-metal/part-glass backing.

If the rumor holds true and comes to fruition, the design of the white version of the iPhone 5 would look the most contrasted. According to some artistic renderings, based on rumors across the internet, the gray-colored metal backing almost appears that it was rigged together by a hacker going for a different type of design.

“The two-toned aluminum and white plastic back panel looks a little industry land maybe not as clean as some Apple fans might prefer,” writes Stacy Warden at Know Your Cell. “Though, this could just be the fact that the artist included full on smudgy fingerprints.”

The black version of the iPhone 5 looks much cleaner, as black and gray go quite well together.

Will Apple release the iPhone 5 in other colors? It’s unlikely. And not because it couldn’t do it, but rather, the demand would be outrageous.

The iPhone 5 is already gearing up to be one of the most popular smartphones on the planet and it has yet to be released, let alone be announced. When Apple finally does release it, which is rumored to be this October, supplies will certainly run short.

What will the iPhone 5 actually look like? We’ll know in about three months.
